Ygne Summer House

The design ambition was to build a house that would recess into the landscape and lightly touch the ground.

Concealed window and door frames were the typical detail throughout the house, distilling the palette to an interplay between blocks of material.

The program revolves around an inner courtyard with front and back terraces spilling into the landscape.

Floor to ceiling windows wrap the house from the entry facade into the courtyard, allowing the forest to become a part of the interior landscape.

The main living area has a strong material change from inside to outside. The exterior uses a rich material palette of Chinese tung oil pine siding and decking, green painted custom formed siding and cor/ten steel detailing, whereas, the interior uses a pale palette of white painted walls, white/washed pine floor, concrete fireplace and limstone.
