As part of a revitalization project of the Nobelberget area in Sickla, Nobelberget Preschool became a landmark for the new development. Using the methodology of adaptive reuse and circular architecture, the 1940’s brick power station was transformed into a preschool.
The concept, which evolved from the narrative of creating an architecture of wonder and curiosity, as well as the notion of how to de-institutionalize the institution, was to create a rainbow that wraps and rests on the existing brick power station.

In collaboration with Stockholm City, the decision was made to preserve as much as possible of the existing power station as a landmark for cultural heritage and a reminder of the history of the area.
The 3rd floor rainbow addition bridges the existing building to the adjacent road creating a horizontal counter point to the vertical expression of the chimney and the building underside where the children can explore and play. The building and landscape becomes interactive with the children.
Material meetings of old and new, past and present.
The choice was made to showcase the imperfections. To show the passage of time and the many lives of the power station.
